Partial Demolition and Strip Outs Oatlands

Kitchen, bathroom and renovation strip outs, partial demolition of additions and outbuildings, and asbestos removal for Oatlands homes.

Renovation strip outs and partial demolition in Oatlands

Oatlands is a suburb of established family homes, and most owners here are improving what they have rather than starting again. That means kitchens and bathrooms that need to come out, a tired rear addition, an old garage or a pool area that has had its day. Any strip out Oatlands homeowners book with us starts with a proper look at the house, so the scope is right before a single tile is lifted.

WasteWise Services is family-owned and led by qualified carpenters with over 20 years of hands-on experience. They understand how post-war and later homes were framed, which walls matter and where services run. Our experienced team takes apart only what the renovation needs, which ensures the rest of the property stays in good shape.

We also look after the parts of a renovation that slow people down. We check for asbestos, prepare the council paperwork where it is needed, arrange disconnections and organise skip bins. When we leave, the space is clean and ready for your builder.

Preparing and running a strip out in an Oatlands home

Four clear stages, planned around your household so disruption stays low and you always know what happens next.

1

Home visit and written scope

We walk through the property with you, agree what comes out and what stays, and put the scope in writing. Photos of hidden areas like roof spaces help us quote accurately.

2

Asbestos check and council preparation

Older materials are checked for asbestos before work starts. If your home is in a heritage conservation area or the work needs approval, we help prepare what council requires.

3

Protection, disconnections and skip bins

Services are disconnected, floors and doorways are protected, and a skip bin is placed where it will not block driveway access, street parking or a neighbour's gate.

4

Controlled removal and a clean finish

Our qualified carpenters strip out or partially demolish the agreed areas, separate the waste and leave the site swept and ready for your builder or landscaper.

Local knowledge: renovating in Oatlands

Oatlands is in the City of Parramatta, about a kilometre west of Telopea, and bounded by the James Ruse Bypass and Kissing Point, Adderton and Pennant Hills Roads. Until the early 1990s the area was known as West Dundas. After the Second World War the Dundas area had a significant housing boom, with many homes built by the Housing Commission of NSW. Homes from before the late 1980s may contain asbestos containing materials, so we check before work starts.

The suburb is still built around family houses. At the 2021 Census, 61 per cent of dwellings were separate houses and a third were townhouses, villas or semis. Almost half had four or more bedrooms, and more than a third were owned outright. Those long-term owners are often updating kitchens and bathrooms, removing old additions or clearing sheds and garages to make better use of the block.

Heritage is part of the picture. The Burnside Homes Heritage Conservation Area covers the former children’s homes established by Sir James Burns in 1911. City of Parramatta assesses development in that area against its heritage controls, and a Statement of Heritage Impact may be needed. Oatlands House dates from the 1830s and sits beside the golf course, which opened in 1931.

Getting around is straightforward. Pennant Hills Road carries traffic past The King’s School in North Parramatta, and the Telopea and Dundas light rail stops on the east side opened in December 2024. A skip bin on your own driveway sits on private land, while placing one on the road or footpath needs council approval.

Oatlands strip out, asbestos removal and skip bin hire FAQs

Do I need approval for partial demolition in the Burnside Homes conservation area?

Often, yes. Development in the Burnside Homes Heritage Conservation Area is assessed against City of Parramatta heritage controls, and a Statement of Heritage Impact may be required. We check your address and scope before any work is planned.

Can you remove an old garage or shed without touching the house?

Yes. We check the cladding for asbestos, arrange for any power to be disconnected, take the structure apart and leave the ground clear. The house and its gutters, fences and paths stay protected.

Is asbestos removal needed in older Oatlands homes?

It depends on the house. Much of the old West Dundas area was built during the post-war housing boom, and homes from before the late 1980s may contain asbestos containing materials. We inspect first and only remove what is found, to Australian Standards.

Where can a skip bin go for my Oatlands renovation?

Ideally on your driveway or elsewhere on your property, which is private land. A skip bin placed on the road or footpath needs City of Parramatta approval, and we can help with that.

Can you strip out a kitchen while we keep living in the house?

Yes. We seal off the work area, protect floors and doorways, and keep noisy work to agreed hours. That ensures water and power to the rest of the home stay on wherever possible.

Do you take away old paving and decking around a pool?

Yes. We remove pavers, concrete paths, decking, pergolas and old fencing around pool and outdoor areas. The pool itself and anything else you are keeping is protected while we work.
